Systemic toxic reactions occuring after caudal anesthesia

Abstract

|
|
The author have had experience with systemic toxic reactions after caudal anesthesia. The systemic reactions encountered involve the central nervous, respiratory and cardiovascular systems. There were many predisposing factors for systemic toxic reactions, namely, agents, concentration, and dose of local anesthetics, rate of injection and absorption, technique of operator, physical condition of patients, and method of local anesthesia.
For these presented case, we consider the probable cause of the systemic reactions after overdose and high circulating blood level due to inadvertent injectioa of lidocaine into the blood vessel.
